Pacific-led Science, Data and Youth for Climate Action

This Pacific-led panel will explore how Pacific science, data and youth leadership can more effectively shape regional and global climate decisions. It will examine three connected needs: elevating youth voices through initiatives such as The Climate Reality Project’s engagement with USP; strengthening robust Pacific-led research through better access to infrastructure, high-performance computing, data and sustained research support; and building regional data-analysis capability. A World Climate Research Programme representative will contribute a global research perspective and help connect Pacific-defined research priorities with international climate research coordination, scientific networks, observing and modelling efforts, and opportunities for collaboration and capacity development. USP will also share lessons from its APN-supported regional project on building data-analysis capacity. The panel will identify practical actions to strengthen Pacific research leadership, youth participation and the capacity to develop and use Pacific-led evidence base for adaptation, resilience needed for COP31 and long-term climate action.
