Ocean-Climate Nexus

A Pacific-Led Transition for Island Shipping

Wednesday 7 October 2026 3:00 PM – 3:45 PM Ballroom 5

About this session

Inter-island shipping sits at the heart of the ocean-climate nexus, connecting Pacific communities across the ocean, yet the region's ageing fleet still runs on imported marine diesel. Grown out of the Wansolwara Dialogues and convened with the Pacific Community (SPC), the Global Maritime Forum and Pacific maritime authorities, this roundtable shows how Pacific-led data is unlocking climate finance for maritime decarbonisation. Join Pacific maritime leaders, financiers and technical experts to help build a coalition of the willing for a fossil-fuel-free, better-connected Pacific.
