Belonging Beyond Rising Seas: Safeguarding Nationality, Preventing Statelessness

Join Pacific leaders, experts, communities and the UN to explore solutions to safeguard nationality and prevent statelessness while ensuring the continuity of statehood in the face of climate change. Drawing on Pacific experience and the first Global Recommendations on Nationality and Statelessness in the Context of Climate Change, developed by UNHCR and PMCS, the session will spotlight innovative regional leadership, discuss legal and policy developments, and identify concrete opportunities for financing & action. Participants will gain insights on how strengthening laws, policies and legal identity systems can safeguard nationality and human rights, resilience and dignified climate mobility in collaboration and harmony across the region.
