Energy Security, Clean Power and Climate Finance: Accelerating the Energy Transition in SIDS
About this session
Small Island Developing States (SIDS) face persistent energy challenges, including high costs, imported fuel dependence, limited access, climate-vulnerable infrastructure and financially constrained utilities. Recent fuel price shocks have underscored their vulnerability to external disruptions. Energy Transition Acceleration Roadmaps for Fiji, FSM, PNG, Solomon Islands and Tonga identify priorities to strengthen energy security, accelerate renewables, improve access and resilience, and support sustainable utilities. Timed to build COP31 momentum and amplify Pacific voices ahead of Antalya, the session will bring together SIDS governments, development partners and financial institutions to discuss reforms, investment needs, financing solutions and private capital mobilisation. Drawing on World Bank work with SIDS, including SIDS-RISE, it will explore how Pacific lessons can inform scalable solutions across island contexts and how regional risk-sharing mechanisms can overcome common investment barriers and accelerate renewable energy investment.
