Pacific Voices & Leadership
From Suva Climate Declaration to Paris to PEV: Leadership in Climate Action
About this session
This panel will explore the role of the Pacific in translating the Paris Agreement into real action and reflect on the barriers to 1.5°C. Building on decades of Pacific leadership, this event will bring together community leaders, regional policy experts and national figures to generate Pacific-led messages for COP31. Panelists will make an ethical argument for stronger political, legal, and financial commitments, grounding the conversation in legal precedent, including the 2025 International Court of Justice Advisory Opinion, and examining the moral implications of weakened Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) and the gap between promised and delivered finance.
