Pacific Leadership for Stronger NDCs

Wednesday 7 October 2026 4:30 PM – 5:15 PM Convention 2

About this session

This interactive workshop will explore how the International Court of Justice (ICJ) Advisory Opinion can strengthen implementation of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs) through participatory, inclusive and human rights-based approaches. Building on Vanuatu's global leadership at the ICJ and its operationalization of the ruling into its latest NDC, participants will examine how governments, civil society and Indigenous communities can work together to increase climate ambition and accelerate implementation of the Paris Agreement. The workshop will showcase promising practices from the Pacific and introduce the concept of Locally Determined Contributions (LDCs), demonstrating how local governments and communities can complement national climate commitments where additional action is needed. Through dialogue and knowledge exchange, participants will identify practical recommendations and partnerships that support more ambitious, accountable and community-driven climate action.
